April Labour Market News Roundup

april-labour-market-news-roundup

April brought many significant developments for the labour market that could have an impact not only on the coming months, but years ahead. Here is our roundup of the most important highlights!

✅ The government announced plans to create a document called the "Migration Bible". In 2023, Poland recorded a negative natural population growth rate — the country lost 137,000 people, the equivalent of an entire city like Zielona Góra disappearing from the map. According to experts from the Gremi Personal Analytics Centre, 100,000 people will leave the labour market every year, and by 2030 the workforce deficit could reach 5 or even 8 million workers. "In this situation, it is clear to everyone that as a country we urgently need workers from abroad, if we do not want the Polish economy to simply collapse," commented Gremi Personal's General Director Tomas Bogdevic in an interview with Gazeta Prawna. ✅ "If Poland's middle class thinks that Ukrainian women will clean their flats more cheaply than Polish women, it's time to change that view," wrote Gazeta Wyborcza. In the article, which critically examines stereotypes about workers from Eastern Europe, Yuriy Grygorenko — Sales Director and Analytics Centre Expert — shared his perspective. The full article is worth reading and is available here:

✅ The number of Ukrainians provided with accommodation by their employer has grown nearly 2.5 times compared to 2022, according to a report by the Gremi Personal Analytics Centre. More details can be found in the article below:

✅ A new mobilisation law in Ukraine is due to come into force in mid-May. It expands the pool of people who may receive a call-up notice by lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25. Under the new regulations, Ukrainians subject to military conscription will have 60 days to update their personal data in the system. More details from Rzeczpospolita:

We do not yet know how significant the changes facing the labour market will be in the coming months, but events are clearly accelerating and even greater difficulties in finding workers can be expected. We encourage you to follow our monthly news updates!
