Working abroad can be a trap. The main schemes through which Ukrainians lose their wages in Poland have come to light

Employment agencies are increasingly resorting to non-transparent schemes when placing foreign workers – and the consequences for workers are not always limited to financial losses. Some of these schemes affect the legality of a person’s stay in the country.

Gremi Personal has analysed candidates’ enquiries over the last six months and identified 10 common schemes that foreigners encounter when seeking employment in Poland. A high salary quoted in a job advertisement may turn out to be significantly lower once the contract is signed; part of the salary is tied to bonuses subject to certain conditions; and problems with documents or insurance contributions are sometimes only noticed several months later – by which time it is more difficult to rectify the situation.
