Which Ukrainian Regions Are Most Represented Among Ukrainians in Poland

This winter, the largest share of Ukrainians residing in Poland came from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The fewest came from Kyiv and Crimea — less than 1%.
The current TOP-10 regions by the highest number of Ukrainians in Poland is as follows:
Dnipropetrovsk — 9.82%
Khmelnytskyi — 6.8%
Ivano-Frankivsk — 6.3%
Lviv — 6.05%
Volyn — 5.79
Rivne — 5.79%
Kharkiv — 5.29%
Zhytomyr — 5.29%
Vinnytsia — 4.53%
Among those surveyed, 52.64% are urban residents, 17.63% came from towns (formerly urban-type settlements), and 29.72% from villages.
These figures were published by the analytical centre of the international employment agency Gremi Personal. The study was conducted through a survey questionnaire with 1,399 participants.
Analysts highlight the shift in the regional distribution structure between the beginning of the full-scale war and nearly two years later. Notably, in spring 2022 the largest number of Ukrainians arrived in Poland from regions close to active combat zones. By winter 2023–2024, the majority of those surveyed in Poland were predominantly labour migrants.
In March–May 2022, at the start of the full-scale war, the TOP-10 regions looked like this:
Dnipropetrovsk — 11.5%
Zaporizhzhia — 8.31%
Kharkiv — 7.81%
Donetsk — 6.63%
Kherson — 5.75%
Kyiv Oblast — 5.61
Poltava — 4.87%
Lviv — 4.41%
Mykolaiv — 4.41%
Vinnytsia — 4.36%
"Historically, the largest number of Ukrainians working in Poland came from the western regions of the country. The outbreak of war changed this pattern, as many people were forced to leave the eastern and southern regions for safety reasons. However, over the course of two years, most have managed to rebuild their lives: some returned to Ukraine, others moved to different countries, so despite the ongoing war the geographical distribution is evening out. Those Ukrainians who remain in Poland are primarily those seeking employment. The number of officially employed Ukrainians in Poland at the end of 2023 stood at 750,000 out of 1,125,000 total foreign workers," says Anna Dzhobolda, Head of the Recruitment Department at the international employment agency Gremi Personal.
