Poland to Start Monitoring Card Payments from 2026: What Ukrainians Need to Know
From 1 January 2026, Poland will introduce new rules for monitoring card payments. The tax authority will receive more information from banks about transactions made with bank cards.
What Will Change
Banks will share data on all card transactions made by business owners with the tax authorities — with no thresholds or limitations.
For private individuals, an annual limit will apply: if the total amount of card expenditures exceeds the equivalent of €25,000 (approximately PLN 106,000), the bank will report this to the tax office.
The information forwarded to the tax office will include: identifying details of the cardholder, account numbers linked to the card, total deposits and payments, and more.
Why the New Rules Are Being Introduced
The aim of these changes is to combat the "grey" economy and increase the transparency of financial transactions. The government wants to ensure that income used to cover expenses has been declared and taxed.
How This May Affect Ukrainians in Poland
For the majority of Ukrainians who work legally, nothing will change. Your salaries are received through official channels, taxes are paid, and all transactions are transparent. However, those who receive cash "in an envelope" or make large transfers without documented income should be more careful — such operations may come under scrutiny.
