State Polish language exam in 2026: session dates, levels, and what you need to know

4.png The state certificate of proficiency in Polish as a foreign language is an official document confirming the level of language proficiency. It is issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language. The certificate is required for:

  • obtaining an EU long-term resident card;
  • applying for Polish citizenship;
  • admission to universities;
  • employment in certain sectors. Below is the current schedule of examination sessions for 2026.

When exams will take place in 2026

The exams will be held in five sessions (Saturday–Sunday). April 25–26, 2026 Levels: B1, C1 Group: adults

June 27–28, 2026 Levels: B1, B2 Group: adults

October 17–18, 2026 Levels: B1, C1, C2 Group: adults

December 5–6, 2026 Levels: B1, B2 Group: adults, youth

Registration opens approximately 2 months before the exam date. The list of accredited centers is published on the official website certyfikatpolski.pl.

Language proficiency levels

Certification is conducted according to a 6-level scale:

  • A1 — beginner level;
  • A2 — elementary level;
  • B1 — intermediate level;
  • B2 — upper-intermediate level;
  • C1 — advanced level;
  • C2 — proficiency level.

For most legalization procedures (residence card, citizenship), a level of at least B1 is required. For university admission or free education in Polish, B2 or C1 is often required.

What the state exam consists of

The exam consists of five parts:

  1. listening comprehension;
  2. grammar and vocabulary;
  3. reading comprehension;
  4. writing;
  5. speaking (interview).

To pass the exam, at least 60% of correct answers must be achieved. The certificate is issued within approximately 2–3 months after passing the exam.

Participation cost

For adults:

  • 150 € — levels B1 and B2;
  • 180 € — levels C1 and C2. The issuance of the certificate is paid separately - 20 €.
