Trading Sunday, 30 August: Which Stores Are Open and What You Should Know

This means that large stores across Poland will be open that day, and you can calmly plan your shopping without any rush. For those who have not yet had a chance to prepare for the start of the school year, the timing could not be better. It is also worth bearing in mind that this Sunday is the last trading Sunday of the summer season - the next ones will not come until December.

What Is a Trading Sunday?

Since 2018, Poland has had a law restricting retail trade on Sundays. Most large stores and shopping centres are closed on Sundays - exceptions include petrol stations, pharmacies, shops at railway stations and airports, and small retail outlets where the owner personally serves customers.

However, several times a year Parliament designates so-called niedziele handlowe - trading Sundays on which stores may open as normal. In 2026 there are eight such Sundays, and 30 August is one of them.

Which Stores Are Open on 30 August?

On a trading Sunday, all major supermarket and hypermarket chains are open: Biedronka, Lidl, Auchan, Kaufland, Dino, Carrefour, Netto, E.Leclerc and others. Shopping centres with clothing, footwear, electronics and home goods stores are also open.

Żabka and petrol stations - as always - are open regardless of whether it is a trading Sunday or not.

Opening Hours

On trading Sundays, most chains operate on standard or slightly reduced hours:

  • Biedronka - generally 7:00-21:00, some stores from 8:00
  • Lidl - generally 6:00-22:00, some stores until 23:00
  • Auchan, Kaufland, Carrefour - according to the individual store's schedule, usually 8:00-21:00 or 22:00

The exact opening hours of your nearest store are best checked in the chain's app or on the entrance door. Some shopping centres also set their own schedule for trading Sundays.

When Is the Next Trading Sunday?

After 30 August, trading Sundays in 2026 do not return until December:

  • 6 December
  • 13 December
  • 20 December

From the end of August to the beginning of December is over three months during which large stores are closed on Sundays. If you are planning a bigger shop, it is better not to leave it until later.
