Schools Close on 26 June. What Parents Need to Plan Right Now

літні канікули (1).png The summer holidays in the 2025/2026 school year at Polish schools begin on 27 June and run until 31 August 2026 - a total of 66 days. The new school year starts on 1 September. For working parents, this is not merely a date on the calendar - it is a period that needs to be planned well in advance.

Dates to Add to the Calendar

Polish summer holidays have a uniform start and end date for all regions of the country - unlike the winter break, when each region takes its holiday at a different time.

  • last day of school: 26 June 2026 (Friday)
  • start of the new school year: 1 September 2026

66 days makes this the longest summer break in several years.

Annual Leave at Work: How to Avoid Running Out of Options

In most manufacturing plants and warehouses in Poland, leave schedules are drawn up at the beginning of the year — sometimes as early as February or March. If you wish to take annual leave in July or August in order to spend time with your child, contact the HR department as soon as possible. Summer is the most in-demand period, and the popular weeks are allocated quickly. Under the Labour Code (Kodeks pracy), the employer is obliged to grant annual paid leave; however, the specific timing is agreed in accordance with the company's work schedule. It is therefore advisable to submit a leave request in writing and well in advance.

How to Keep Your Child Occupied During Summer When You Are Working

Polish cities offer a wide range of summer activities for children. These are not exclusively paid options - municipal programmes are often available free of charge or for a nominal fee.

  • day camps (półkolonie) - organised by schools or district centres, lasting one to two weeks;
  • sports clubs and sections - football, swimming and dance schools operate in most Polish cities throughout the summer;
  • library programmes - Polish public libraries organise free summer reading marathons and workshops for children;
  • cultural and arts centres (domy kultury) - theatre, art and music groups running throughout the entire summer.

Information on available programmes can be found on the website of the local municipality (gmina) or at the school your child attends.

If You Are Planning a Trip to Ukraine

August is traditionally the busiest month at Polish-Ukrainian border crossing points. If you are planning to travel at the end of the summer, allow extra time for waiting, or consider travelling in early July instead.
