Toll Roads in Poland: Costs and Locations

Poland is consistently improving its infrastructure – roads are being renovated and the transport network is expanding.
To fund these developments, tolls have been introduced on certain sections of major roads.
Where are Poland's toll motorways and expressways located? How much does it cost to drive on Polish toll roads? Read on to find out.
Where Are the Toll Roads in Poland?
Toll roads are marked with a special sign. Currently, Poland has three toll sections, located on motorways A1, A2, and A4.
Motorway A1
On the Gdańsk – Toruń motorway, drivers must pay for the section between the Rusocin and Nowa Wieś junctions. The toll section is approximately 150 km long. The price per kilometre is PLN 0.20.
If you plan to drive the entire stretch, it is more cost-effective to purchase a ticket for the whole section – it costs PLN 29.90 (around €7). Note! During the summer season, prices may increase.
There are two payment options – at the toll gate at the end of the journey, or via an app.
In September last year, the A1 motorway became free of charge for motorcycles and passenger cars weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
Motorway A2
On the Świecko – Konin motorway, there is a section over 250 kilometres long – the longest toll road in Poland.
However, if you prefer not to pay, you can find an alternative – there are several free parallel routes alongside this road.
Important! Toll rates on different parts of this road vary from PLN 0.20 to PLN 0.62 per kilometre. On the most expensive section, Nowy Tomyśl – Konin, motorcyclists receive a 50% discount.
Payment is made at the toll gate. Trucks must pay via e-Toll Pl Bilet.
Since July last year, the Konin – Stryków section of this motorway has been free for motorcycles and vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
Motorway A4
There is also a toll road in south-eastern Poland. The 60 km toll section is divided into several parts between junctions and runs along the Kraków – Katowice motorway.
On this road, three payment options are available:
■ via e-Toll Pl Bilet,
■ via apps,
■ at the toll gate (on entry and exit).
The toll rate on this road differs for cars and motorcycles.
One section of this motorway, namely Wrocław – Gliwice, is toll-only for heavy goods vehicles (until July 2023, all drivers were required to pay). Payment is made via e-Toll Pl Bilet.
How to Pay a Toll on a Polish Road?
When a driver enters a toll road, they receive a special ticket. This ticket must be kept until the end of the tolled section – if lost, the driver will be charged the full amount regardless of how many toll kilometres they actually travelled.
To drive on sections managed by GDDKiA (the government body – General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways), an electronic ticket – e-Toll Pl Bilet – is required. You can purchase an e-Toll Pl Bilet at this link.
How Much Does It Cost to Drive on a Toll Road in Poland?
Currently, depending on the type of vehicle, the rate ranges from PLN 0.10 to PLN 0.56 per kilometre. As mentioned above, some roads are toll-only for trucks.
The final cost also depends on the distance travelled.
In general, the following payment options are available:
- At toll gates on the toll section (dedicated collection points at entry or exit). These gates may have staffed cashier booths or automated systems.
- Tolls on Polish roads can also be paid via apps: Autopay (iOS / Android), mPay (iOS / Android) and others.
Please note that in 2024, traffic rules and penalties for drivers in Poland are becoming stricter. We covered this in this article.
