New Payments for Workplace Accidents in Poland: How Compensation Amounts Have Changed
Starting April 1, the amounts of lump-sum compensation for workplace accidents and occupational diseases have increased in Poland. According to the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Policy, these payments have risen by nearly 9%. The new rates will remain in effect until March 31 of next year.
Current Compensation Amounts from April
The amount of financial assistance from the state depends on the severity of the injury or the consequences of the accident.
The main rates are now:
- 1,781 PLN — for each percentage point of permanent or long-term health impairment;
- 31,162 PLN — in the event of total incapacity for work and the inability to live independently;
- 160,264 PLN — payment for the spouse or child of an employee who died as a result of an accident (this amount may increase if there are other children);
- 80,132 PLN — if another family member (other than a spouse or child) is entitled to the payment for the deceased employee.
Where Do the Most Accidents Occur?
According to Statistics Poland (GUS), more than 30,000 workplace accidents were recorded in the first half of last year, resulting in 219 severe injuries and 80 deaths. The highest risk levels were recorded:
In industries: mining and quarrying, water supply and waste management, and the healthcare sector;
In Voivodeships: Opole, Silesia, and Warmia-Masuria. Statistics also show injuries occurring during remote work (111 affected individuals).
Tips from Gremi Personal
- Only an official employment contract guarantees insurance protection against workplace accidents.
- If you are injured, notify your supervisor immediately. To receive compensation from ZUS, the employer is required to draw up an accident report (protokół powypadkowy). Without this document, no payment will be issued.
