Food Prices in Poland: Ranking of the Cheapest and Most Expensive Supermarkets in 2026
Poland is experiencing a temporary decrease in the cost of basic food products; however, on an annual basis, prices continue to rise. According to the latest market research for March 2026, the price difference for a grocery basket between the cheapest and most expensive supermarket exceeded 156 PLN.
Price Dynamics: How Much Do Groceries Cost?
The average cost of a basket containing the most popular daily consumer goods (dairy, meat, cold cuts, fish, fruits, vegetables, and household chemicals) stands at 334.49 PLN. The overall market price dynamics are as follows:
- Compared to the previous month, the basket price decreased by 1.38%;
- Compared to the same period last year, prices rose by 6.23%.
Notably, the lowest possible cost for a basic set of products was 247.02 PLN, while the maximum price exceeded the 400 PLN threshold for the first time in history (403.15 PLN).
Supermarket Ranking: Where to Shop for Less?
The study covered prices for identical products across Poland's largest retail chains. Overall, prices decreased in 8 chains and increased in 5.
- Auchan – remains the undisputed leader. It is the only chain where the cost of a basic basket does not exceed 300 PLN (averaging 294.83 PLN).
- Netto – this chain showed the largest monthly price drop (by 7.10%). It was also the only chain where prices fell compared to last year.
- Makro Cash & Carry and Dino – also maintain their positions among the cheapest stores for grocery shopping.
Where Prices Rose the Most?
Analytics show that popular discounters and supermarkets significantly increased their prices on an annual basis:
- Biedronka – recorded the highest growth in basket cost (prices soared by over 18% year-on-year).
- POLOmarket and Carrefour – also ranked in the top three chains with the most noticeable price hikes (10% and 8.2% respectively).
- Kaufland – showed the largest price increase specifically within the last month (by 2.4%).
Why Are Further Increases Forecasted?
Experts note that the spring price reduction is merely a temporary market correction. A sustained price drop in the coming months is unlikely. The primary reasons for future increases are rising logistics costs due to fuel prices, fluctuations in raw material costs, and general macroeconomic instability.
