Research on Job Selection Factors

The most influential factor in job selection for women in Ukraine is a high salary. This option was chosen by 24% of respondents — the highest figure among all ten factors surveyed. At the same time, high earnings matter less to Ukrainian women in Poland, where only 18% of respondents listed it as a priority. What matters most to women in Poland is a comfortable work environment and supportive management, cited by 22% of respondents. Interestingly, back in their home country, Ukrainian women place less importance on a friendly manager and colleagues — only 18% of respondents considered it significant.
The study on job selection factors among women was published by the analytical centre of the international recruitment agency Gremi Personal. A total of 1,380 women in Ukraine and the same number in Poland participated in the survey, which was conducted throughout January 2023 using an online questionnaire.
Convenient job location is considered an advantage in Poland by 9% of respondents, compared to just 3% in Ukraine. The categories "career growth and self-development opportunities" and "flexible working hours" are almost equally important for Ukrainian women in both countries — 9% each in Ukraine and 8% each in Poland.
Official employment is more important to Ukrainian women in Poland — 20% compared to 16% in Ukraine. Social insurance, on the other hand, is of lesser concern: 6% in Ukraine versus 9% in Poland. Notably, not a single respondent in either country voted for "extended leave" or "opportunities for business travel." The agency explains that this pattern is typical for Ukrainian candidates. When recruiting citizens of other countries, these factors tend to carry significantly more weight.
"There are over 1 million Ukrainian refugees in Poland, 71% of whom are self-sufficient — the majority of them are women. Since 24 February, we have placed more than 20,000 women in employment in Poland. Polish employers compete heavily for Ukrainian women and are constantly striving to improve working conditions. To help company managers respond to the priorities of Ukrainian women, we researched the factors that influence their choice of workplace." — says Anna Dzhabolda, Director of Recruitment at Gremi Personal.
The agency notes that job selection factors differ between Ukrainian women at home and those seeking work in Poland for understandable reasons: the language barrier makes it difficult to find a job in one's field of expertise. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that 52% of Ukrainians in Poland are already learning the language in order to pursue professional work.
Overall, the infographic clearly illustrates how job selection priorities differ between Ukrainian women living in their home country and those looking for work in Poland.
