A Degree No Longer Guarantees Anything. European Employers Have Changed Their Requirements — What Comes First Now

The labour market is transforming: European companies are increasingly hiring employees based on real skills rather than formal qualifications. This is the key finding of a new piece published by NV Business, featuring insights from experts at the international recruitment firm Gremi Personal.

Experts note that the hiring model is shifting from document checks to competency validation through test assignments and case studies. As Gremi Personal's strategic adviser Liliia Tereshchenko emphasises, the importance of traditional work experience in recruitment processes is declining. Companies are no longer looking for perfectly "ready-made" candidate profiles. Instead, what matters most is high development potential, a candidate's ability to integrate quickly into a work environment, and the capacity to deliver results efficiently.

Today, a portfolio, industry certifications, and proven track record carry more weight than a "perfect" CV. Why experience is no longer the sole measure of professional value — and what skills employers will be looking for by 2030.
