Poles spent 148 million days on sick leave (L4). Companies face a giant problem

In the first half of 2026, Poles spent 147.7 million days on sick leave, even though the number of sick leave certificates (L4) issued fell by 2.7% year on year. For companies in manufacturing, logistics and warehousing, the biggest challenge remains sudden employee absences, which can reduce shift productivity, cause delays and make it harder to fulfil orders.

Anna Dzhobolda, Strategic Advisor in the Recruitment Department at Gremi Personal, stresses that workforce security requires not only a sufficient number of employees, but also consideration of their qualifications, availability and the variability of staffing needs. Gremi Personal's experience shows that it is crucial to prepare in advance for replacements, flexible employment models and candidate sources, in order to shorten the time between a staffing shortage appearing and work actually starting.
