More and More Employees Aged 50+ in Stores. Biedronka Shows the Scale of the Change

Polish retail is feeling the effects of demographic change and labor shortages more and more strongly. Retail chains are widening their pools of potential candidates, and employees over 50 and foreign workers are becoming increasingly important in their teams. As Tomas Bogdevic, General Director of Gremi Personal, notes, Biedronka is an example of these changes: the number of its employees aged 50+ rose from 8715 to 10 120 within a year.
The Gremi Personal expert stresses that the growing challenge for employers will be not only recruiting employees, but also managing diverse teams and retaining them. According to the Gremi Personal Analytical Center, technological development will also change the scope of duties in stores, increasing demand for digital skills. Proper work organization, flexible schedules and managers who can effectively onboard and integrate employees will be of key importance.
