March Labor Market News Summary

✅ The latest research conducted by the Gremi Personal Analytical Center shows that the number of Ukrainians planning to stay in Poland has fallen by half compared to last year. A survey of 1,150 people revealed that 43% of Ukrainian citizens residing in Poland are having difficulty deciding whether to return home, and 19% plan to stay in Poland at least until the end of the war. "This is an enormous number, given how many Ukrainians live in Poland — they are the largest group of foreigners in the country," emphasized CEO Evgenij Kirichenko. ✅ Among the 7,000 workers employed by Gremi Personal in blue-collar positions, the majority are women. There are currently 2,500 men alongside 4,500 women. "I think the gender ratio in the labor market is influenced by two factors — first, as we know, over the past two years the pre-war labor migrants have been replaced by female refugees. And the fact that mostly young women arrived with children or other dependents often meant they had to take on shift work in order to balance their caregiving responsibilities," commented Karolina Szleszyńska, Vice President of Gremi Personal. ✅ Poland, as an EU member state facing migration challenges, must have a "migration bible" to adhere to. Uncontrolled immigration is a mistake — said Maciej Duszczyk, deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs responsible for migration policy, in an interview with "Rzeczpospolita."

The government's announced introduction of a long-term migration strategy is certainly welcome news, as every year the labor market will shrink by 100,000 Polish workers. A sensible and well-thought-out migration policy is therefore essential for Poland.
